I made a big list of goals at the beginning of 2019, and I shared it on my blog so I would be held accountable. This year I tried to be methodical about it, and I split my goals into resolutions, goals and priorities. I was really inspired to meet my goals this year, and I think updates are a really fun way to measure progress (or lack of progress). Now that we are officially halfway through 2019, I decided it was time for an update:
Focus on going Green
I have been focusing on being more eco friendly and incorporating zero-waste lifestyle elements into my own life. I think this is a largely long term goal, because becoming more green is a long term goal because it requires tiny, incremental changes done every day. I have written about this before linkbut I think I am overall much better than I was a couple of years ago, even though I am not perfect, I think I am more contentious, and I take more active steps to be environmentally friendly, but I do have a long way to go.
Prioritise travel and experience over things
I have tried to prioritise experiences over things more, and I think that I am getting much better at not equating buying things with happiness, and because of this, I think I am having lots of really fun and rewarding experiences. I have planned a couple of exciting trips coming up for the end of the year, which I hope will let me really achieve this goal.
This seems really simple, but what I mean by this is ‘Stop cringing over my own existence’. I used to apologise for EVERYTHING, for walking, for speaking, for opinions, if someone bumped into me- for everything. And I hated it. This year, I have made a conscious effort to stop apologising, unless I have actually done something wrong. That means, no gratuitous apologies on emails, not prefacing my speech with ‘sorry’ and thinking critically about what I’m saying sorry for. It has been a massive behaviour shift for me, and I have had to really think before apologising. Because I believe as women, sometimes there is pressure to apologise for taking up space, having ambition, or having high value for yourself, I didn’t want to internalise that feeling, and I didn’t want to undercut myself, or other women, but apologising all the time.
Health and Wellness
I have been really focusing on health and wellness this year, I have been learning to cook, which has been a long process, but ultimately means I am eating much better. I have been challenging myself to drink a couple of litres of water a day and I have recently joined a new gym. Its been really fun, but I would love to incorporate a bit more yoga and stretching into my life, because I would like to be more flexible than I am now.
My Family and my Friends
I wanted to focus on my family and friends a bit more this year, its has been so great. This ties into valuing experiences over things. Obviously I would love to have even more time with the people I love most, but I have to fit in things like having a job too.
Save money, and Buy consciously
While I have been making an effort to buy more consciously, and I have drastically cut back on fast fashion and take out (my two biggest ‘expenses’). I recently moved house, and changed jobs, so it was a skint couple of months, but now that everything has settled down, I have hope for the end of the year.
I want to write a book
I officially have 29 877 words of a very bad, very rough draft of a book done. This is so exciting for me, and I am feeling really inspired by the process and the progress. I hope to have a full first draft by the end of this year, I still have a lot to go, but I wrote words!
Get my drivers licence
This is embarrassing, but no, I will have them by the end of this year (I know I said that last year, it’s fine, I’ll get there).
I have travel plans, but I am yet to actually travel- so hopefully at the end of the year!
Get a Rad new career in my Field
I actually recently started a new job, that is fantastic, and is in my field. So right now, I get to do what I love, for money. It’s really exciting and I am still learning, but so far, its been going well!
Get my Masters Degree
This year I officially graduated from my Masters and it was a really exciting moment for me. I have plenty of blog posts coming up about it.
Get a Pet
I haven’t gotten a pet as of yet, but it’s only a matter of time. I have been researching what kind of pet I want, and I have cautious approval, so this should happen soon!
Read 100 books in a year
So far, I am on 40 books, which is respectable, but a bit behind schedule. I have been focusing on reading all my physical books this year, and they are all pretty thick, so its been taking me a while to get through them.
Hows your year going? How are you going with your goals?
